Kevin O’Brien OUT! Ireland 291/6 in 44.1 overs The O’Brien’s try to go for the double but the newcomer fails to stretch and is run out.
Live Score Ireland 286/4 in 44 overs This is frustrating! Ireland are simply throwing waste their net run rate and choking towards the end. They need 15 runs and how long are they going to take reach their target?
Gary Wilson OUT! Ireland 290/5 in 43.5 Ireland are simply wasting time now as Wilson, tries to go the mile but his attempted shot is straight at Gayle standing at short cover.
Live Score Ireland 286/4 in 42 overs Just one run coming from the 42nd over. Roach returns to bowl for the next over. 19 required from 48.
Andy Balbirnie OUT! Ireland 285/4 in 41.3 overs The Irish are testing the patience now! Balbirnie plays two dot balls and then pulls Taylor’s short delivery straight into Bravo’s hands at deep midwicket.
Live Score Ireland 283/3 in 40 overs Balbirnie is off to a flyer with back-to-back fours. 22 runs needed in 10 overs. Looks like the Irish just want to get over this very quickly and we owe them a big thanks for that attitude! :P
Ed Joyce OUT! Ireland 273/3 in 39.2 overs Joyce follows Stirling and misses out on a century after miscuing Taylor’s delivery towards Bravo at deep extra cover. He’s out for 84 but O’Brien will march on with Balbirnie accompanying him.
Live Score Ireland 255/2 in 38 overs O’Brien goes for the big one over long on but skies it considerably. Holder chases it unable to hold on to the ball and gives life-line to the 33-year-old to surge towards his half-century. Taylor’s over proves costly once again with 11 runs coming from it this time. O’Brien on 49 while Joyce sits on 79.
Live Score Ireland 238/2 in 36 overs Batting Powerplay activated before the start of the 36th over. Joyce back on strike with 78 runs while O’Brien is slowly working his way towards 13th ODI fifty. He is currently on 31.
Live Score Ireland 224/2 in 34 overs Simmons did well with the bat but his attempts to do something with the ball goes futile as Joyce and O’Brien share 12 runs evenly among them. The left-handed duo are really enjoying themselves out there. 11 more runs coming up from the 34th over bowled by Andre Russell. The Irish need 81 runs from 96 balls now.
Live Score Ireland 201/2 in 32 overs The cow corner appears to be the batsmen’s favourite place here as Joyce now piles up the pressure on West Indies. Joyce currently on 63 runs while O’Brien has 12.
Live Score Ireland 187/2 in 30 overs After flirting with singles, O’Brien scores his first four of the match. 118 needed from 20 overs; just less than six runs. At their current rate, they should be able to manage the win easily.
Live Score Ireland 177/2 in 28 overs Niall O’Brien replaces the 24-year-old, who had also pulled his hamstring. Samuels has his first wicket of the match. 128 runs needed from 22 overs.
Paul Stirling OUT! Ireland 177/2 in 27.5 overs A wonderful partnership of 106 runes comes to a close as Stirling edges Samuels’ delivery behind into Ramdin’s graceful hands. Stirling departs with 92 runs; eight short of the century.
Live Score Ireland 166/1 in 26 overs Stirling is on a roll as he smashes 18 runs from Taylor’s over before going down clutching his hamstring. The 24-year-old has now amassed 90 runs; just 10 short of his sixth ODI century. Change in bowling with the introduction of Marlon Samuels sees four more runs being added to the Irish tally. 139 runs needed from 24 overs.
Live Score Ireland 144/1 in 24 overs Roach returns to bowling but gives away 12 runs that started with a six over wide long on. Sammy initially wanted to give the bowling to Taylor but changes his mind and decides to bowl. 13 runs coming off the 24th over
Live Score Ireland 119/1 in 22 overs Joyce gets another six, sending the ball flying towards long off. Stirling and Joyce share seven singles in the subsequent 11 deliveries with the former back on strike.
Live Score Ireland 106/1 in 20 overs West Indies needed nearly 60 balls more to cross the century mark before Sammy and Simmons decided to go berserk. Ireland have played well so far but are slowly dropping away from the run-rate of 6 runs per over. Things should be back to normal soon though!
Live Score Ireland 99/1 in 18 overs Joyce is up and running as he hooks Russell for a six towards deep fine leg. Stirling brings up his half-century as Ireland are just one run short of the 100 mark by the end of Gayle’s over.
Live Score Ireland 83/1 in 16 overs Joyce is taking time to settle down but Stirling continues to maintain his strike rate at a 100 with 46 runs from as many balls.
Live Score Ireland 73/1 in 14 overs Ed Joyce comes on and picks up a double after wasting a couple of deliveries. 232 runs needed from 36 overs.
Porterfield OUT! Ireland 71/1 in 13.2 overs And the first wicket falls as Gayle’s delivery edges Porterfield’s bat and Ramdin makes no mistake in taking the catch.  The skipper walks with 23 runs on his account.
Live Score Ireland 66/0 in 12 overs Double Change in bowling as Andre Russel and Chris Gayle looks to weave their magic. The former bowls the 11th over and gives away four runs but the latter concedes just one as Porterfield retains his strike.
Live Score Ireland 61/0 in 10 overs The tall West Indian bowlers are looking to make the best use of their pace with intimidating bouncers but that isn’t helping them break the opening partnership. Porterfield has taken a back seat while Stirling has now 33 runs on his scoresheet. Taylor’s bouncers has somewhat arrested the run leak. At this stage West Indies were 40/2; Ireland need 244 runs to win.
Live Score Ireland 54/0 in 8 overs Jerome Taylor replaces Holder in attack. Composed batting from the Irish pair as 50 comes up for Ireland in the eight over with 10 runs coming of it. Stirling also got struck in the visor but was fine to continue. The 24-year-old also pulled the ball for a six towards long leg thus bringing up the half-century.
Live Score Ireland 40/0 in 6 overs Holder has set his players in good position to curb the runs. But Porterfield finds the gap down deep square leg to hit Roach for a four to make eight runs from this over.
Live Score Ireland 31/0 in 4 overs Stirling takes the centre-stage and shows some brilliant placements skills to nick three fours. Five runs came off the third over bowled by Holder while Roach’s second has seen 10. Should Ireland chase down this score, it’ll be the fourth highest run chase in World Cup history. They already hold the first and third places in the list after having chased down 327 and 306 runs against England and Netherlands respectively.
Live Score Ireland 16/0 in 2 overs Porterfield maintains the run-rate at 8.00 with a six in Roach’s penultimate delivery. The skipper has touched double figures after pulling the 26-year-old towards deep square leg.
Live Score Ireland 8/0 in 1 over Holder starts with the over with a wide ball that rolls through the wicket-keeper and Gayle for four. Five free runs and three singles coming from the opening over.
What do Ireland have up their sleeve? All the teams batting first have won so far in the World Cup. Ireland did chase the target of 328  runs set by England in the previous edition. Can they repeat their feat at Saxton Oval and break the pattern?
*Innings break*
Live Score West Indies 304/7 in 50 overs What a performance from the West Indies! After an initial collapse, Simmons and Sammy revived the Caribbean’s fortunes with the pair putting up a partnership of 154 runs before the former went on to score a century of his own! Ireland need 305 runs to win. Click here to read the top three highlights of the innings.
Lendl Simmons OUT! West Indies 302/7 in 49.5 overs Simmons brings up the century as well as West Indies’ 300 with a four but in the very next delivery he miscues his shot over cover and Dockrell goes full stretch to take the catch and dismiss the 30-year-old.
Live Score West Indies 295/6 in 49 overs Simmons is nearing his century! He starts the over with a six and exchanges a single before giving the strike to Russell, who also smashes a four.
Live Score West Indies 280/6 in 48 overs 19 runs! Yes! I’ve been proven wrong big time! West Indies have indeed come alive and are on the verge of mounting a 300-run plus target.
Live Score West Indies 261/6 in 47 overs Simmons is taking a cautious approach but was nearly caught leg before wicket. Mooney went for a review and the umpire’s decision was correct as the ball is just missing the leg-stump.
Live Score West Indies 254/6 in 46 overs And Simmons helps West Indies bring up 250 by sending Sorensen’s full toss over fine leg for a six. 11 runs managed off this over. Simmons is now on 79 as Mooney returns to bowl.
Live Score West Indies 243/6 in 45 overs Simmons and Russell exchange singles to finish the over. The former is on 69 but can he score a century?
Darren Sammy OUT! West Indies 241/6 in 44.4 overs The Irishmen have finally broken the partnership although the damage appears to be significant. After Sorensen awarded a lifeline by dropping a catch at deep square leg, Dockrell – at deep mid-wicket – takes the catch and doesn’t disappoint Mooney. Russell is the next one to take the field.
Live Score West Indies 228/5 in 44 overs Simmons too reaches his half-century with a huge six straight down the ground. Sammy is on 77 and remains there as Kevin O’Brien is punished heavily with 22 runs coming from the 44th over.
Live Score West Indies 198/5 in 42 overs At one point, West Indies were 87/5…Look at them now! Sammy and Simmons have brought the 100-run partnership and are showing no signs of stopping. 18 runs coming from the last two overs that includes three fours.
Live Score West Indies 180/5 in 40 overs Sammy is punishing Ireland heavily and by the looks of it he might help the West Indies score over 250 runs by the end of the innings. Nicking five runs of the 39th over (bowled by Kevin O’Brien), Sammy and Simmons add 12 runs from Sorensen’s over with the former scoring a six and the latter a four. Ireland have lost all the spark that they showed at the start and Mooney will return to attack.
Live Score West Indies 163/5 in 38 overs Sammy and Simmons are holding tight as 150 comes up. The former has also breached the 50-run mark getting 11 runs off Dockrell’s final over. That’s his ninth ODI fifty and West Indies look stable enough to cross 200 soon.
Live Score West Indies 120/5 in 32 overs Sorensen returns into the attack and Sammy pulls a high bouncer that falls just beyond mid-wicket. Why attempt such risky shots when your team is struggling? He then caps the over with a huge six over mid-wicket.
Live Score West Indies 106/5 in 30 overs It’s so sluggish that I’m thinking of going for a large meal and return. Five runs in two overs? Are we playing Test Cricket?
Live Score West Indies 101/5 in 28 overs 100 comes up for West Indies and it has taken a staggering 28 overs! The Irish bowlers are having a field day conceding just one or two runs now. If they don’t want to add the runs then the wickets should flow!
Live Score West Indies 99/5 in 26 overs Sammy hitting a six is the only run coming off Dockrell’s sixth over. Apart from a huge six over long off, West Indies are struggling to add the runs.
Live Score West Indies 90/5 in 24 overs Almost another wicket for Dockrell but Sammy edges the ball between the wicketkeeper and the first slip to clinch three runs. The two-time champions are collapsing. McBrine returns to attack in the next over with Sammy and Simmons in the middle.
Denesh Ramdin OUT! West Indies 87/5 in 23.3 overs Dockrell strikes and once again it’s LBW! Ramdin looked to sweep but then the umpire oblisges to the Irish appeal. West Indies have no reviews left and the decision can’t be challenged as well!
Live Score West Indies 84/4 in 22 overs Simmons and Ramdin are on the field and the latter has added six runs that includes a four towards deep mid-wicket. That could have been a wicket if there was a man out there!
Marlon Samuels  OUT! West Indies 78/4 in 21.4 overs That’s a double whammy! Dockrell catches Samuels leg before wicket but the batsman asks for a review. The decision stands after the review! Samuels walks with 21 runs to his name.
Chris Gayle OUT! West Indies 78/3 in 21.2 overs Ireland have taken the big wicket! Gayle goes for the six over cow corner but doesn’t get the trajectory right and the ball lands into the hands of Kevin O’Brien. Dockrell gets his first wicket of the match!
Live Score West Indies 71/2 in 20 overs The runs are coming and its not as fast but we will certainly take it! Singles and doubles only but Stirling concedes five runs while Dockrell concedes four.
Live Score West Indies 62/2 in 18 overs Wow! A little rush of adrenalin as Gayle smashes Dockrell for the first six of the match and that was quite T20-esque from the left hander. After that there is just four dot balls and the over comes to a close!
Live Score West Indies 51/2 in 16 overs Finally! The 50-run mark has been breached finally! In two overs just two runs have been added. Just how slow can they be! The team batting first have been knocking the runs. George Dockrell and Paul Stirling are now into the attack.
Live Score West Indies 49/2 in 14 overs The Irish are really keeping things in check as the last two overs have just resulted in three more runs. It could have easily been a maiden for Kevin O’Brien but a single off from Gayle in the final delivery means he will have to wait for a few minutes more.
Live Score West Indies 46/2 in 12 overs Small scare in the 11th over for Ireland as Gayle’s attempted pull from McBrine’s over is miscued. The ball bounces off the edge of his bat and hits Wilson in the face. Luckily, there’s no damage and the wicketkeeper looks good to continue. Samuels opens his boundary account with a clean shot towards straight long off.
Live Score West Indies 40/2 in 10 overs Gayle smashed a couple of fours off McBrine’s over before handing over the strike to Samuels. Just one run comes off the 10 over which was bowled by Kevin O’Brien.
Darren Bravo OUT! West Indies 31/2 in 8 overs Golden over for Ireland! Gayle pushes the ball towards point and shouts for a single; some miscommunication between him and Bravo and McBrine makes a direct hit to dismiss the new comer for a diamond duck.
Meanwhile, the reason for Sulieman Benn’s sudden exclusion from the playing xi is due to a small twinge.
Dwayne Smith OUT! West Indies 30/1 in 7.3 overs: Kevin O’Brien is brought into the attack and he starts off with a wide. After a couple of dot balls, Smith tries to go for the maximum but his shot lacks the strength to cross long on and is straight into Mooney’s hands.
Live Score West Indies 29/0 in 7 overs Smith adds seven runs in the sixth over as Ireland make a change in bowling. Mooney is replaced by spinner Andy McBrine for the seventh over and the right-arm spinner pulls off a maiden over.
Live Score West Indies 21/0 in 5 overs Gayle slowly coming to life as he smashes Sorensen down long off for a four. He then takes a double in the final delivery to give the strike to Smith. The right-hander smashes Mooney for a couple of boundaries to take his personal tally to double figures and then a single off the final ball to keep the 35-year-old at the non-striker’s end.
Live Score West Indies 6/0 in 3 overs Three runs but West Indies get underway in the second over bowled by Max Sorensen. Gayle takes a single of the final delivery to retain strike in the third over. Mooney’s over bears a similar outcome as the second with three more runs being added to the tally.
Live Score West Indies 0/0 in 1 over: Mooney is the first into the attack and there is an appeal for an edge in the third ball. But the noise emerged from the bat brushing the pitch. Smith needs to take it easy as Mooney has maintained his line and length. It starts with a maiden!
How lucky are the ones who are currently in attendance at Saxton Oval. The scenery is an absolute beauty and teams are now out for the national anthem.
Less than 15 minutes to go before the game begins. Will Chris Gayle go bonkers or do the Irishmen have some magic up their sleeve? Remember, they have never beaten the Caribbean’s in ODI’s and could this be the first time? We shall see! So far in the World Cup, the captain’s winning the toss have opted to bat first in all the four matches but Porterfield here has opted to bowl.
The playing XI has been announced and they are as follows -
West Indies: Dwayne Smith, Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Denesh Ramdin (wk) Lendl Simmons, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell, Jason Holder (c), Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor
Ireland: William Porterfield (c), Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce, Niall O’Brien, Andrew Balbirnie, Gary Wilson (wk), Kevin O’Brien, John Mooney, Max Sorensen, George Dokrell, Andy McBrine
Hello and welcome to India.com’s live coverage of the 5th ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 match between West Indies and Ireland from Saxton Oval, Nelson. The game will commence at 3:30 am IST while we bring you the toss updates and more as it happens. Catch the live scoreboard and ball-by-ball updates of this match here.
West Indies prepared poorly in their build-up to the tournament with a 1-4 series defeat to South Africa and all they could muster was a three-run win over Scotland despite posting a target of 314 runs in the warm-up matches. Ireland too didn’t arrive for the main tournament with something huge to show but will be determined to prove that they can qualify into the knockout stages by throwing in a few surprises. Click here to find out telecast details and live streaming links of this match.
Judging by the rankings, Jason Holder’s side are clearly the favourites to embark on a quest for their third title with a win. But should William Porterfield’s boys come all guns blazing, it might just prove difficult to acquire that dream start which they would have come hoping for in the first place. ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Schedule: Complete Fixtures & Time Table of all Cricket World Cup 2015 Matches.
