HERATH REPLACES INJURED LAKMAL FOR REMAINING ODIS

Herath replaces injured Lakmal for remaining ODIs - Cricket News
Rangana Herath named as a replacement for injured Suranga Lakmal.
Sri Lanka’s campaign suffered a blow with Suranga Lakmal being ruled out of the remaining ODIs against England. Rangana Herath has been called up as his replacement.

Lakmal sustained a grade two tear on his right hamstring while taking a run in the first ODI. Sri Lanka, who levelled the series 1-1 at Chester-le-Street had originally announced Shaminda Eranga as a likely replacement for Lakmal, but named Herath, the spinner, instead due to the conditions which assisted spinners.

A Sri Lanka Cricket statement released on Monday confirmed, “At a selection committee meeting it has been decided by the national selectors to send Rangana Herath for the Sri Lanka tour of England series, in place of Suranga Lakmal who is injured.

“Suranga will return to Sri Lanka and Rangana will join the squad.”

Herath has 51 wickets in 52 One-Day Internationals and also 200 Test wickets to his name.  Lakmal, however, is likely to be fit in time for the first Test, starting at Lord’s on June 12.

England was bowled out for just 99 as Sri Lanka cruised to a 157-run victory in the second ODI at Durham on Sunday to level the five-match series 1-1 after the hosts won by 81 runs in a rain-affected opener at The Oval.
