ICC World Cup 2015: New Zealand vs West Indies - As it happened...


 New Zealand and thrashed West Indies by 143 to seal their semi-final spot in theICC World Cup 2015. After posting a massive 393 thanks to Martin Guptill's unbeaten 237-run knock, the Kiwi bowlers, led by Trent Boult, easily bowled out the Windies for 250. Brendon McCullum's team will face South Africa in the first semi-final on March 24.

Vettori came back in to the attack and polished off the Windies innings. Holder made room and lofted the ball straight in to the hands of long-off.

Jason Holder can bat. He dispatched the very quick Adam Milne for three consecutive boundaries. The skipper showing his players how its done.

Over 28 | Score 221/9
Southee's yorker length delivery was dug out and planted straight in to the hands of midwicket by Taylor. Southee bagged his second wicket with that dismissal.

Southee came back in to the attack, Russell tried to play a cross-batted slog over midwicket and lost his off-stump. Jerome Taylor was the next man in and wasted not time is getting off the mark by hitting the pacer for two consecutive fours.

Holder danced down the track and smacked Vettori straight back over his head for a maximum. Windies skipper won't go down without giving throwing the kitchen sink at the Kiwis.

Jason Holder came out to bat after Carter's dismissal. After the skipper scored boundary off the first ball of Anderson's over, Andre Russell finished it with with two consecutive sixes.

Finally some luck for the wily old Daniel Vettori as he yorked Carter to dislodge his off-stump.

Corey Anderson was brought in to the attack and staying true to his reputation, the all-rounder produced a breakthrough for his side on his second ball. Sammy top edge Anderson's delivery and Ronchi ran towards the gully region to complete a simple catch.

Darren Sammy brought some Calypso flavor in to play as he hit Boult for a six over mid-off. That wasn't a bad delivery from the pacer but Sammy execution was spot on.

Daniel Vettori was brought back in to the attack after bowling an expensive first over. Unfortunately for him, Sammy and Carter treated him with disdain scoring 17 runs off his second over. The left-arm spinner's figures today read: 2-0-38-0

Boult bowled fast and accurate to concede just 2 runs off his 9th over. This has been a clinic in left-arm fast bowling from the Kiwi.

Gayle inside edge a very quick Milne delivery straight back on to his stumps. Milne's raw pace did the West Indian there who was late on his big drive. Darren Sammy walked out to the middle and hit two back-to-back fours through the covers.

McCullum persisted with his mantra of attack by bowling Boult in his 8th over. Carter pulled him through midwicket for a boundary.

Milne attempted bouncer failed to rise as expected and was dealt with appropriately by Gayle with a six over midwicket. The Windies opener now has 26 sixes at the tournament.

MAIDEN!
McCullum persisted with Boult instead of giving him a breather. The left-arm pacer reciprocated by bowling a maiden to Carter. Perfect over!

Adam Milne was introduced in to the attack. Gayle brought up his fifty by gently guiding a delivery off his hips for a for.

Over 12 | Score 101/4
Jonathan Carter played a cut through point for four and followed it up with a good-looking cover drive in front of square to derive the same result.

Over 11 | Score 92/4
Gayle is in devastating form. He hooked Southee over mid-wicket for a six and then followed it up with another one straight over long-on with effortless ease. It appears as though Gayle is batting in a different match from rest of his teammates.

Over 10 | Score 80/4
Marlon Samuels played an upper-cut to Boult's short delivery. Vettori at deep point boundary jumped in the air and plucked the ball, one handed, out of thin air to complete one of the best catches of this World Cup. The entire team ran to the veteran to celebrate. What a moment!
Boult followed it up with another beautiful delivery to trap Ramdin lbw. Gayle is just watching this from the other end.

Samuels and Gayle brought up their 50-run partnership off just 20 balls. Southee, brought back in to the attack, was on the receiving end of Samuel's assault. The right-hander mauled the pacer with  three fours and a six.

Gayle swatted Boult's short of a length delivery for a powerful six over long-on. Mind you, Gayle is not fully fit for this match.

Gayle played almost three identical sweep shots off Daniel Vettori, in his first over, to hit three sixes. The opener has taken his Royal Challengers Bangalore coach to the cleaners.

Boult picked his second wicket of the match after inducing a thick edge off Simmons' bat as delivery was full and angled away from the batsmen. Guptill competed a simple catch at second slip. Windies reeling now.

Gayle hooked Southee for a six and then muscled him mid-on for a four. Productive over for the Windies.

Southee and Boult have given absolutely nothing away to the Windies batsmen so far. Gayle needs to get a move on soon.

West Indies got off to the worst possible start as Trent Boult uprooted the off-stump of Charles. Lendl Simmons came out to join Chris Gayle out in the middle.

Martin Guptill entered history books as he become the first Kiwi to score a double ton in ODIs with a 237-run knock. The opener's unbeaten innings powered the home side to 393. He notched up 24 fours and 11 sixes and flayed the Windies attack to all parts of the ground.

Guptill ended the New Zealand innings with a final flurry in Russell's over. He hit the medium pacer for two sixes and a four to end unbeaten on 237.

Luke Ronchi went on an offensive off Taylors bowling as he smacked the pacer for two back-to-back fours off his first two balls. He then dug out a full straight delivery and planted a catch in to the hands of Benn at square leg. Daniel Vettori came out to bat and picked up from where Ronchi left as he too got going with two consecutive fours off the first 2 balls.

Guptill hit Russell to the long off boundary to pick up four runs and become the first ever New Zealander to score a double century in ODIs. What a stage to do it on!

After picking up a four off Taylor's first ball, Elliott tried to hit across the line and got trapped lbw.

Anderson's attempted pull off a slightly short Russell delivery resulted in a simple catch at midwicket to Gayle. The big West Indian seemed pleased after taking his second catch of this match.

Guptill went on a rampage in that Holder over. First he planted a six over mid-off and then followed it up with another over deep midwicket off a full toss.

Andre Russell came back in to the attack. He banged in a short ball to Anderson, who pulled it over square-leg boundary for a six. The left-hander then followed it up with four over the mid-off fielder.

Guptill reached another milestone as he got to his 150. Fantastic knock by the opener. He has treated the home fans to some high quality batting.

Holder brought himself back in to the attack. Corey Anderson came out to bat after Taylor's departure. Guptill showed no signs of slowing down as he cut Holder over cover-point for another boundary.

Guptill and Taylor have not been on the same page when it came to running between the wickets today. That led to Taylor's downfall as he ended up getting run out.

Holder threw the ball back to his strike bowler Taylor despite him having been disappointing so far day. His bad day at the office continued as Guptill was severe on him scoring 16 runs off the over, which included two fours and a six.

Benn came back into the attack. The Kiwis are getting a move on now. Guptill picked up two boundaries off Benn's over, first with a sweep and then with a late cut. Ominous signs for the Windies this.

New Zealand brought up their 200 in that over from Sammy. Both the batsmen look set to tear in to the Windies attack now. Guptill got stuck in to the medium pacer and launched him over over wide long-on for a big six.

HUNDRED!
Martin Guptill stroked Samuels down the ground to pick up a single and complete his ton. He created history by becoming the first Kiwi to register back-to-back tons at a World Cup. No fancy celebrations from the centurion. This is serious business!

Four runs came off the Sammy over. Guptill is now just 1 hit away from a World Cup quarter-final hundred. The crowd is getting louder.

Guptill hit a power shot, along the ground, straight past the bowler for a four. He hit it so firmly that even the long-on fielder could not cut it off. He moved in to the 90's with that shot.

Only 3 runs came off that Sammy over. The partnership between Guptill and Taylor is now 77 runs

Guptill moved on to 88 after he picked up two runs off Samuels. The Kiwis need him to play right through their innings.

Guptill finally managed to get Sammy away by hitting him through the gap between mid-on and midwicket for a boundary. The medium pacer had bowled a very tight line until then. New Zealand would not be looking to get a move on.

Guptill opened the face of his bat to run down a Samuel's delivery fine of short third man to pick up 3 runs. The duo picked three more singles off the remaining over.

Sammy kept the pressure on Taylor by not giving anything away. He hasn't conceded a single boundary in his four overs. Guptill on the other hand is slowly moving towards his 2nd hundred of the tournament.

Textbook stuff from Guptill and Taylor on how to play a spinner in the middle overs and rotate strike. They picked up six singles off Samuels without taking any risk. Sensible batting.

Over 26 | Score 140/2
Sammy has done a good job ever since coming on to bowl. Only two runs off that over. His figures read 3-0-11-0. Both Sammy and Samuels have managed to pull things back for West Indies by stemming the flow of runs. Boundaries have been hard to come by for the Kiwis now.

Very good stuff from Samuels. He has kept things very tight from one end. Ross Taylor is not in free-flowing form and is taking his time to build the innings.

Sammy continued with his medium pace. He has a knack of breaking partnerships and picking up key wickets. West Indies need to break this stand soon.

Marlon Samuels was brought in to the attack. Guptill punished a short and wide delivery from the off-spinner by cutting it through point for four.

Darren Sammy was introduced in to the attack by Holder. He bowled a tight first over conceding four runs. After the departure of Williamson, Guptill and Taylor have put on 32 runs. This is a crucial partnership for the Kiwis if they are to post a big total.

Martin Guptill completed a well-compiled fifty by picking up a single off Russell. He has scored 7 boundaries so far in this knock.

Ross Taylor came out to the middle after the dismissal of Williamson. He got off the mark with a single off Benn's bowling.

Andre Russell gave Windies a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Williamson. He spooned a simple chance to Chris Gayle who completed the catch at short cover on his second attempt.

Two lbw appeals were made by Benn in that over. Both were rejected by the umpire. West Indies decided to review the second appeal, but were left disappointed by the replay.

Andre Russell was brought in to the attack as a second-change bowler. The medium pacer looked set to complete a tidy first over only to be handsomely pulled by Williamson in front of deep square leg for four off his last bowl.

Benn's full toss was easily dealt with by Guptill for a four through the covers. West Indies have not been able to build any pressure on the Kiwis since McCullum's departure. The home team are picking up a boundary in almost every over.

Holder continued to bowl from the other end. Williamson got both his feet up in the air to play a rising delivery and punch it for a four between point and cover-point. Fantastic to watch.

Sulieman Benn was the first change bowler for the West Indies. He bowled with one slip in place. Guptill welcomed him with a cut in front of point for four.

Over 8 | Score 49/1
Guptill forced the ball through the covers to pick up three runs off Holder's fourth over. The Windies skipper doing a good job to stem the flow of runs from the other end.

Williamson looks a billion bucks when on song. He played three glorious shots to pick up three boundaries of Taylor's fourth over. The pacer has been very expensive so far.

Kane Williamson came in at the fall of the first wicket. Holder has been impressive in the tournament so far. The Windies skipper bowled a fine over and conceded just 3 runs.

McCullum tried to hit Taylor's full delivery over mid-off, but the bat turned in his hand and he skied his shot. Holder channeled his inner Kapil Dev to complete a great running catch. Huge breakthrough for the Windies.

He first whipped Holder wide of long leg for a four and then pulled him for a square leg to register the first six of the match.

Guptill punished two half-volleys, one one off and the other on leg-stump, through mid-off and mid-on region respectively. He looks in devastating form. Taylor has already been warned by the umpire for running on the pitch.

Skipper Jason Holder came on to bowl from the other end with the other new ball. He kept things tight and conceded only 3 runs off his first over.

Jerome Taylor opened the attack for the West Indies and bowled an eventful first over. Guptill punched him through the vacant mid-on region on the first ball to score his first boundary of the innings. On the third ball, Marlon Samuels dropped the right hander at square leg. Jason Holder's side has been sloppy to say the least so far.

Stalwarts New Zealand will fancy a victory against an unpredictable West Indies side. The Kiwis have won all their matches so far and are eyeing a seventh successive victory. West Indies meanwhile will be bolstered by the return of Chris Gayle and hope he clicks for them upfront.
